Step 8a

No swim aids for testing

  1. Tread water for 20 seconds
  2. Using a good stroke swim 50 metres
  3. Perform a pencil jump into deep water followed by 10 seconds treading water
  4. Scull 10 metres head first on back maintaining horizontal position throughout
  5. Push, glide and begin front crawl. 10 metres to be completed with correct breathing technique
  6. Demonstrate correct breast stroke breathing technique over 20 metres
  7. Perform head first surface dive in water more than head height to collect object from bottom
  8. Show basic butterfly arm and leg action over 5 metres
  9. Perform a sitting dive
  10. Start with push and glide on back, into backstroke using correct arm and leg technique for 1 width

Step 8b

No swim aids for testing

  1. Tread water for 60 seconds
  2. Swim 2 lengths using 2 different strokes with correct technique throughout
  3. Demonstrate a kneeling dive with hand/head first entry
  4. Scull head first 10 metres on back then turn onto front and immediately perform forward roll
  5. Swim 10 metres, perform a surface dive and collect an object from deeper than 1.5 metres, then scull 10 metres back to side
  6. Perform 1 length breast stroke with correct technique throughout
  7. Show butterfly with basic technique including breathing for 10 metres
  8. Swim 10 metres in shorts and t-shirt
  9. Swim 50 metres without stopping and using correct technique throughout
  10. Jump in, swim 10 minutes, surface dive and swim 5 metres under water
