Step 2a

Swimming aids can be worn for all criteria

  1. Hold child’s hands and pull through water using alternating motion with adult/child hands
  2. Encourage child to blow bubbles
  3. Encourage child to let go of adult and move independently
  4. Supporting child on back encourage them to kick legs
  5. Encourage child to enter water independently from sitting
  6. Encourage child to climb out without assistance

Step 2b

Swimming aids can be worn for all criteria

  1. Encourage child to jump into the water while holding their hands
  2. Encourage child to move across the water on their front using a float/woggle if necessary
  3. Adult to turn 360 degrees vertically and encourage child to do the same
  4. Support child on their back, kicking their legs to achieve propulsion
  5. Encourage child to blow bubbles or an object through the water
  6. Assist child to achieve a star float on front or back

Step 2c

Swimming aids can be worn for all criteria

  1. Child to achieve a star float on front or back
  2. Child to push a ball using alternating arms across the pool
  3. Child to independently hold float and kick legs to achieve propulsion
  4. Encourage child to blow bubbles with face in water
  5. Encourage child to jump from side into adults arms
  6. Adult to confidently submerge child and for child to be happy with it
