Step 1a

Swimming aids can be worn for all criteria

  1. Adult and child enter the water safely
  2. Adult to bob up and down in the water with child close to your body, not submerging
  3. Supporting child on front and move around the pool
  4. Supporting child on back and move around the pool
  5. Wash child’s face, encourage their participation
  6. Encourage child to hold pool edge and adult to let go (without allowing submersion)

 

Step 1b

Swimming aids can be worn for all criteria

  1. Holding child in water adult to blow bubbles
  2. Encourage child to reach for float/toy while being supported on their front
  3. Supporting child on front, push them out to arms length and pull back in, repeat several times
  4. Support child on their back under head/shoulders encouraging them to float
  5. Shower child with watering can/alternative while they are sitting on poolside
  6. Encourage child to fall into adults arms from sitting on poolside (hold hands if necessary)
