Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG)
This course covers everything you need to effectively maintain, correctly test and restore pool water so it is safe and pleasant to swim in. It is approved by the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG). This means that our training is of the highest standard, meeting PWTAG guidelines which are widely viewed as best practice.
Who is the course designed for?
Anyone who is responsible for the day to day operation of a pool plant. This includes local authority employees, schools and private pool owners.
Course content
The course is delivered through a mixture of classroom activities and practical learning.
You will learn about:
- Maintaining pool hygiene
- Controlling chlorine and chemical levels
- Managing water supplies and water treatment
- Testing for pollution and parasite infection
- Maintaining pipes, circulation and filtration
- Promoting health and safety
- Disinfection
- Balancing pH and alkalinity
- Diagnosing and testing pool water
- Making savings on heating, ventilation and energy

SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) - Blended Learning Whole Course
This course develops your knowledge, skills and abilities as an assistant swimming teacher. It will enable you to actively support a qualified swimming teacher in the delivery of a planned learn to swim session.
Blended Learning is a more flexible approach where you complete the theoretical elements of the course online through interactive activities and checks on learning, prior to the practical workshops.
The online learning will need to completed 72 hrs prior to the first face to face date below.
Who is the course designed for?
Anyone interested in starting a career in teaching swimming or wants to assist a swimming teacher. Blended courses are best suited to those with some prior experience of supporting swimming lessons.
Course delivery format
- Online learning - you will be given access to this on the start date listed below. This must be completed 72 hours prior to attending your first face to face session. The estimated time to complete this is 8 hrs.
- Face to face days - During these sessions, the tutor will cover the remainder of your practical topics and planning for your swimming lessons. This will consist of a meet and greet, preparation, assisting at least two 30-minute swimming lessons, evaluation and feedback.
Course content
The course is delivered through a mixture of classroom activities, online learning exercises and practical poolside learning.
You will learn about:
- The legal aspects of assisting in swimming lessons
- The responsibilities of a Swimming Assistant
- The swimming pathway, fundamental movement, core aquatic skills and component parts of strokes
- Scientific principles of swimming
- What makes up a lesson plan, equipment and communications skills
- How to identify anxiety and use of motivational techniques
- The type of assistance you can provide
